Sociodrama

In IDEAS Sociodrama participants imaginatively experience real life social dilemmas and respond through characters they create. Topics are explored by way of drama games, improvisation, guided discussion, scene analysis and re-play.  All topics can be connected to academic subject curricula if desired. The focus is on character and story development through improvisation, as well as character and scene analysis as it relates to human behavior and outcome.

Workshops address specific topics chosen from a supplied list. Offered as a residency program only. Designed to meet twice weekly, but can meet weekly. Most effective as a semester-long 15 session residency. No culminating event, unless specified through a Plus option.

Topic choices vary in relation to development level and need. Some examples include: Respect; Anger/violence; Peer Pressure; Sharing; Bullying; Diversity; Nutrition; Gossip; Alcohol/Drug Use; Grooming/Hygiene; Prejudice; Discrimination; Death/Grieving; Communication; Sexuality.

PLUS – OPTIONAL PERFORMANCE COMPONENT
Either Sociodrama or Creative Drama can be  Plus program, by request. This is simply an extension of either program with a performance component. A minimum of four (4) additional workshops are added to the above programs to focus on performing orginal student-generated scenes. This option ends in an informal showcase presentation of scenes created during the residency. Here students learn other aspects of theater in addition to acting that go with a production.
